How does the mail send & reply work in a shared mailbox?

If a user replies to a message in a shared mailbox, the reply appears to come from the shared mailbox email address. A user can also (if they have permission to do so) send a message “on behalf of” a shared mailbox. The message will appear to come from “Username on behalf of <Shared Mailbox>”

Who uses a shared mailbox?

Typically, shared mailboxes are used by companies trying to consolidate the incoming and outgoing messages of a particular team in their company. For example, email addresses such as customerservice@yourcompany.com or sales@yourcompany.com can be shared among their respective team members.
